Researchers affirm that Christian families have known intuitively for years: Families that eat together, pray together and play together are stronger. But today’s crazy schedules and priorities make it more difficult for families to do this.
As you raise your children in the way they should go, find the time to enjoy the journey. To assist you, we’ve included a few activities to help you nurture your children’s faith in fun ways.
Check back regularly for new ideas. Feel free to email us with some ideas you have found to be meaningful for your family and they may make it onto our list to share with other families.
The Question Box
It’s never too early to get our kids thinking about the big questions of their faith. Fill a box with cards that have challenging questions, such as “How do we know God exists?” “Is Jesus really God’s Son?” and “Are all religions equally true?” Several cards have answers on the back, while others are more open-ended, requiring kids to think and discuss the topic.

Bedtime Memory Verses
Choose a Bible verse or Psalm to print out and tape it to your child’s bed frame or on the wall next to their bed. Every night, recite the verse or passage together before prayers. If you make it a routine, your child will eventually be able to recite the psalm or verse from memory. Once you all have it memorized, put up another Scripture passage.
Reflecting on Scripture
Using a dry-erase marker, write Bible verses on the bathroom mirror to encourage or challenge your kids. Use those brief but consistent moments to help them learn God’s Word. They are spending time in the Word while they brush their teeth or comb their hair. After a week, wipe off a word here and there and leave the marker out for the kids to fill in the blanks. You’ll be amazed at how a few minutes each day help them learn Scripture.
Dear Jesus Letter
Encourage your child to write a letter to Jesus from the heart. Give your child prompts if he/she get stuck such as: What would you like to tell Jesus about?, What is something you want to ask Jesus for or about?, Tell Jesus something that makes you happy/sad/angry. Print off this letter format for your child to use or create your own.
Prayer Chain
Children love to make paper chains to count down to a special day or decorate a space with. If your child loves to make chains, they will surely love to make a prayer chain!
To make your prayer chain:
- Cut out strips of colored paper roughly 1 1/2in by 8in, as many as you wish.
- Write someone or something you want to pray about on each of the strips of paper
- Glue each piece in a ring, each connecting with one another.
- Find a place in your kitchen or your child’s bedroom, somewhere you would likely say your prayers, and hang it.
- Each day, tear off a loop and pray for what is written on that loop of paper.
