There is a theme present in many of the shaping moments and experiences of my life that defines the love and passion I have for God’s people today. It is expressed in these words:
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
With these words I was aware of God walking with me through the darkness of critical illness in my early twenties. With his mercy and comfort God gifted me with healing, both spiritual and physical, and used it to shape and equip me for how He intended to use me.
For two decades God grew my faith and service as I shared Christ’s love and forgiveness with men in a maximum security prison, striving to help them build new lives with faith. Later His Words accompanied me while I walked with His people in a broken and dispirited church, loving and leading them to a rekindled faith and a revitalized ministry.
I rejoice today to serve Christ and His people in a ministry that embodies a healing place of acceptance and nurture, sharing God’s gift of comfort in their troubles, and encouraging lives of following Jesus that are healthy and fruitful for self and others.
…for such a time as this. Esther 4:14
